back to school feast 2010

i totally stole this idea from the amazing stephanie nielson whose blog i have been following for a few years now.  i love how she makes a big to do about each new school year and decided to start my own back to school feast tradition this year.

here are the boys with their back to school medallions...

i picked the theme "be respectful" and made a sign that will hang in our home for the school year and serve as a reminder of our focus for the year.

we set the table with some of our fanciest wares and stayed dressed up after church for our party.  the menu included a salad, homemade hoffer family noodles and lemonade.  for dessert we had apple oatmeal bars soaked in sweet cream.

the famous and highly coveted hoffer noodles

during dinner we talked about what it means to be respectful and all the different people in our lives that we need to be respectful to...like moms and dads, adults, our siblings, our teachers and friends, and heavenly father.

we toasted our lemonade glasses to a new year and i think the boys felt special and ready for their first full week of school.

...and, yes, there may have been a few pieces of glitter in the noodles.

I love it, Anne! Beautiful, I can't imagine how long it took you to prepare those decorations! I love the one on the table. Great idea, thanks for sharing. And maybe you could post the recipe for those famous noodles? They look amazing.

We just perused your awesome post... after which Paris said "They are lucky." and i said "what are we?" and she said "not lucky."... then she said "why can't you sew like Aunt Annie?" Anyway, your decorations are great and the noodles look scrumptuous!!
